Located in South Hobart, Tasmania, this carport workshop space exemplifies thoughtful planning and skilled construction by blending quality materials with practical design. The exterior is clad with salvaged Tasmanian Bluegum random-width timber, which adds texture and character. The variety in width and tone of the cladding helps the structure fit naturally into its surroundings, enhancing its visual appeal.
Inside and outside the workshop, exposed Tasmanian Oak framing emphasizes strength and craftsmanship. Leaving the framing visible showcases the natural grain of the timber and highlights the attention to detail that went into the construction. The courtyard and the path leading to the house are paved with limestone, a durable and visually appealing material whose light, natural tones complement the timber elements beautifully.
Sandstone steps lead up to the entry of both the house and workshop, providing a sturdy and welcoming approach. The natural textures of the sandstone blend seamlessly with the other materials and tie in with the original sandstone wall, creating a cohesive look.
Overall, this carport workshop is designed to be both functional and versatile. It integrates high-quality materials and smart construction techniques to create a space suitable for practical tasks, secure off-street parking, storage, and creative work. Built to last, it successfully combines durability with attractive design to serve its purpose well.
