Huonville
2022
Located in Huonville, this passive exemplifies sustainable and efficient home design. The house is thoughtfully constructed with a frame of robust 140mm studs, which not only provide structural strength but also allow for increased insulation, enhancing the building’s thermal performance. Its exterior is clad in rough-sawn Tasmanian Stringy Bark (Eucalyptus Obliqua), giving the home a natural, locally sourced finish that ties it to its environment.
A standout feature of the home is its thermally-broken concrete foundation, which is separated by insulation to significantly reduce heat transfer between the ground and the interior. This approach helps maintain stable indoor temperatures throughout the year, contributing to both comfort and energy efficiency. The house is fitted with Unilux triple-glazed windows, which maximize insulation and natural light while minimizing heat loss. To further bolster the building envelope, ProClima internal and external membranes are used, providing robust protection against air leaks and moisture ingress.
Ventilation and air quality are managed by a modern HVAC system, ensuring consistent, filtered airflow and maintaining a comfortable, healthy indoor environment with minimal energy use. This passive house in Huonville demonstrates what can be achieved through careful planning and innovative construction, offering a sustainable and comfortable living space that minimizes energy consumption and supports the well-being of both its occupants and the environment.
